Apparently, at some point the syntax for using
adb backup changed and it’s not really well documented…
This is how I backed up my Android phone with
adb backup -f mybackup.bkp '-apk -obb -shared -all -system'
While before you would launch your backup with:
adb backup -f oldbackup.bkp -apk -obb -shared -all -system
Notice the lack of quotes in the old version.
I’ve been working with Varnish for a while, but if you’re getting started or considering it, this introduction to Varnish video is really worth watching: it explains everything you need to know and illustrates what you can do with Varnish.
Stuff I’ll look into: Docker
Docker is a very cool tool to manage Linux Containers.
Adaptive Fault Detection
Interesting podcast about monitoring in near-realtime and the faults of threshold-based monitoring
Stuff I’ll look into: OpenTSDB
OpenTSDB is a distributed, scalable Time Series Database (TSDB) written on top of HBase. OpenTSDB was written to address a common need: store, index and serve metrics collected from computer systems (network gear, operating systems, applications) at a large scale, and make this data easily accessible and graphable.

LSB init scripts return codes
Posting it as a reminder: if you need to write an init script for a cluster service, make sure that your return codes are LSB-compliant!
